A new documentary released this week called ‘Whitewashed’ looks at the rise of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party under leader Jeremy Corbyn and how the Chakrabarti report into anti-Semitism was used to “whitewash” the party of its problem.

The film gives a voice to those who felt ignored in Chakrabarti Report on anti-Semitism and is presented by Sociology Lecturer of Goldsmiths University – David Hirsh.

Also highlighted are the comments that are often used about Corbyn calling Hamas and Hezbollah his “friends”. While politicians and media groups have constantly used that phrase against Corbyn, it is actually what he said a few sentences later that is truly troubling, when he said that the terrorist organisation Hamas’s goal was to “bring about long-term peace” and that the British government labelling them as a terrorist organisation was “really a big, big historical mistake.”

Jeremy Corbyn’s full quote on Hamas and Hezbollah is as follows: “Tomorrow evening it will be my pleasure and my honour to host an event in parliament where our friends from Hezbollah will be speaking. I have also invited friends from Hamas to come and speak as well. Unfortunately, the Israelis would not allow them to travel here, so it is going to be only friends from Hezbollah. So far as I am concerned, that is absolutely the right function of using parliamentary facilities, to invite people from other parts of the world so that we can promote that peace, that understanding and that dialogue. And the idea that an organisation that is dedicated towards the good of the Palestinian people and bringing about long-term peace and social justice and political justice in the whole region should be labelled as a terrorist organisation by the British government is really a big, big historical mistake.”

The reason that Labour has an anti-Semitism problem is because the leadership of the Labour party is anti-Semitic, but this documentary helps to understand better how they managed to “whitewash” the issue.
