Two Hamas fighters died in separate tunnel collapses in the Gaza Strip overnight, the Palestinian terror organization, which controls the territory, said on Friday.

Khalil al-Dimyati, 32, and Yusef Abu Abed, 22, were killed after two “resistance tunnels” collapsed, Hamas said, referring to tunnels used for military purposes.

It did not give details of the locations or causes of the collapses, but confirmed the two men were members of Hamas’s armed wing.

A security source said one collapse was in Gaza City, while the other was near the city of Khan Yunis.

Terror tunnels have long been a tactic of the Hamas terrorist group that runs the Gaza strip. Most of the money used on these tunnels is supposed to go to Gaza’s poor and needy, who are suffering under the leadership of Hamas.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations last month said of the terror tunnels, “Hamas continues to arm itself in order to harm Israel as it exploits the generous humanitarian aid provided by the international community. They have turned the residents of Gaza into hostages and invest resources into digging murderous terror tunnels.”

In April this year, the United Nations Relief Works Agency announced that it had discovered and sealed a terror tunnel that was dug underneath two schools in Gaza, backing up claims made by Israel that Hamas were using schools to hide terrorist activities.

Hamas is wanting to use their tunnels to infiltrate Israel to carry out attacks and kidnappings. Israel is currently working on counter tunnel technology and building an underground wall around Gaza to stop Hamas tunnels from reaching into Israel.

The video below shows how Hamas promotes these tunnels to the general population and how even children are recruited to help build them. There have been a number of incidents where Palestinian children have been killed building these tunnels.
