Israeli company claims to have found method to stop spread of Zika Virus

An Israeli company in the United States is claiming to have developed life-saving technology that could severely block the spread of the Zika virus.

The highly-infectious virus has infected large parts of South and Central America with pregnant mothers and their unborn babies at greatest risk.

Brazil is at the centre of the outbreak of the virus, which has been linked to a surge in babies being born with underdeveloped brains.

The country has 462 confirmed cases of microcephaly, and is investigating another 3,852 suspected cases.

The Israeli company SANSIO is says it has successfully tested technology in Virginia that could prevent the further spread of Zika by dropping non-infectious mosquitoes into affected areas, thus greatly reducing their ability to reproduce.
