The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif offered to send troops from the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard to Venezuela to protect President Nicolas Maduro, according to Channel 13 news.

The offer comes in the midst of an economic and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. In January, Juan Guaido declared himself leader of Venezuela in a power struggle with socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

US, Canada, Israel and 50 other countries recognise “the new leadership in Venezuela”.

The country has seen two million flee the country following food and medicine shortages.
